I actually know a guy who rants about how Biden banned his lightbulbs because of the transition to LED's and the new LED bulbs don't dim the same and don't have the same color temperature. He hates Biden for this process that Biden 100% has zero knowledge is happening and was started multiple administrations ago.
153
u/k_Brick Jul 05 '22
That's weird, I remember hearing this bullshit when Obama "banned" incandescent bulbs and they're still on the shelves at Lowe's.
62
u/zakmmr Jul 06 '22
In California they are banned. At least the standard ones. You may still be able to get some for special uses. I'm a handyman, and I always recommend to clients to not even wait til their bulbs are out to switch. They are way more efficient to the point you are saving tons of money. The bulbs cost more, but you're saving hundreds of dollars in electricity bills. And the new LEDs look just as good as incandescent and can be dimmable as well.

u/personalgrower Jul 06 '22
I bought my house two months ago. I replaced ALL the bulbs in the house.
60 bulbs. 49 40 watt incandescent bulbs. 6 60 watt floodlight bulbs. 3 100w incandescent bulbs outdoors. 2 150w floodlights outdoors.
The 40 watt replacement LED’s use 8. The 60w floodlight replacements use 10. The 100w replacement use 15. The 150w replacements use 20.
It’s a bit insane that my maximum lighting draw went from about 3000w to just over 500.

(2) Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than one running board courtesy lamp on each side thereof which shall emit a white or amber light without glare.

Depends how they apply the law, might not apply here if the vehicle isn't running. If this were on the person's lawn or in their driveway, they'd likely be perfectly fine. But since they're in the street, it's a bit subjective.
If he started the truck or drove with it and had these lights on, then yeah. Ticket city. But otherwise, he is probably ok legally. Otherwise we'd have to go around ticketing every contractor that has work lights turned on when they're doing work afterhours.

610
u/Mr_Quackums Jul 05 '22
I don't know about Florida but in Texas, undercarriage lights are legal when the car is parked but not when it is in motion.
Granted, lights like this are probably (hopefully) not legal.
This is probably a "disturbing the peace" or "public nuisance" charge, unless the truck has a thin blue line sticker on it, then nothing will be done.
252
u/BrokenCankle Jul 05 '22
Nothing will be done without the sticker either. I live in Florida too and have a new neighbor that put led spotlights on his house pointed at all of his neighbors homes. It's insane levels of bright. I can't actually see the stars at night anymore and it shines right into my living room. The neighbors on the other side have two facing them. It lights the entire street up. He doesn't even live there. He's slowly fixing it, sort of so it looks like shit because it's in a constant state of construction. We have never had an issue on this road with theft or trespassing but his stupid lights have actually alerted the world that our dead end dirt road exists. It's such a nuisance but the city or police won't do shit about it. We asked him to point them down or switch them out and he said "yeah I know they are bright". He doesn't care. We basically have to become Florida man and go shoot them out to get rid of them if we want them gone. That's how Florida rolls, they don't help you so you have to resort to being a POS or moving and people can't afford to move so Florida man it is.

Doesn't seem to be enforced well. I often see under lighting (whatever it's called) and the big new fad is incredibly bright light bars on the front grill and back of the truck.
They're so bright it's blinding even during the day, and it's always on lifted trucks so the intent is clearly to blind other drivers. Seen plenty of cops roll right on by while the lights are on.

High quality yet often obscenely overpriced. Their coolers work great, but the original design is suitable for storing meat over long hunting trips... not necessary at all for some beers at a tailgate. I don't think they think it looks good, they think it looks bright. In PA I'm pretty sure people cover their trucks in super bright LED bar "fog lights" for the same reason people put on obnoxiously loud exhausts. They WANT to annoy other people. That's how they get the most attention. Everyone has to notice them now. If there is any fog it's a wall of light barreling down on me that makes it so I can't see anything on the other side. I can't miss them. I point all my mirrors away from my eyes when driving at night. Sucks to have to slide down in my seat every time I want to use a side mirror but it's better than being blinded by someone in a bro-dozer.

I know people disagree with me, but god there needs to be stricter regulations on vehicles, especially when they’re a necessity in the US.
I love custom sports cars and stuff, but god leave all of the heavily modified stuff off public roads. Your truck shouldn’t have its bumper over crumple zones, and cars shouldn’t be so low that stopping to turn into a parking lot with an incline grinds traffic to a halt in one lane. Especially with trucks, you don’t need it lifted to tow.
Start fining them and putting that money into roads and infrastructure. If they really want it, milk them dry

One of my old friends that let me crash at her place for a bit started dating this dude that was into the stereotypical concrete cowboy stuff. Dude came over to her place one night at saw my MSI laptop with a glowing keyboard and said "man i never really got like, the whole flashy light thing on computers" in a way that made it obvious the dude was just bagging on "nerd stuff."
Anyways, we went outside and the guy excitedly tells my friend to "hey babe look at this sick ass shit i did to my truck." Hops in, flips a switch, and the dudes entire truck lights up like my laptop.

How to say your top douche while driving down the road

u/eatthebunnytoo Jul 05 '22
He’s so good at it, he can look like a douche without even starting an engine

Don't worry. He'll run through his lottery winnings in 11 days, then the truck will be repossessed.

Reminds me of the brightness of my opposite neighbours porch light. It's like a stadium flood light and they leave it all bloody night for eeasons unknown - the twats. Even a blackout blind doesn't fully stop it flooding into the bedrooms. People are selfish cunts.

I had the same thing from several neighbors. I went over and had a friendly chat with them and they pointed their lights toward the ground instead of into my windows.
Sometimes people don't realize they're imposing on others and are happy to stop.

I did go and have a friendly word and they refused to see it as an issue and said they wouldn't be changing it. Therefore they do realise its a problem for me regards coming into the bedroom windows. So they are being twatty about it- which is strange as apart from the ridiculously bright porch light situation they don't stand out as arsehole neighbours otherwise.

Does it violate ordinances? Most areas have restrictions on lumen/lux within 25-50 feet of a neighbor's property.
Some neighborhood kids used to break our shitty neighbor's helicopter searchlight on the back of his property. Those darn kids.

Hear, hear! I'd be happy to point any offending light elsewhere if asked.
My Satanic Temple flag, OTOH, ain't going anywhere.

Right? I like to use a blender to help me eat, my elderly neighbor asked me to stop using it so loud because she sleeps when I’m using it. My work schedule is crazy hours. So I put the blender on some towels, adjusted my recipes for her sleeping schedule and she came up with a smile and said that’s better. Kissed me on the cheek lol.

Seems like the type of guy who would go apeshit if someone were to put transparent pride flag window stickers over his blinding bright white lights.

Everyday I'm reminded that people like him exist. They live to make others lives just a little bit more miserable than they would without him around.

I have a neighbor or two with super loud mufflers. I doubt they care that the rest of us just want to live in our homes in peace.

Generational wealth, owning businesses, lottery wins...
Guy bought the townhouse beside me. Moved in with a vette, viper and a SUV for his wife. Bought the townhouse to live in while his custom house was being built after he sold his last property. Once it was finished, sold the townhouse for $100k in profit. Money makes money.
He owned 2 bars.
