When my wife boots me off my Spotify, it's always a murder podcast of women killing their husband's and I just wanted to listen to Blink 182.

I plan on not pissing her off because I know she's learned some things.

If you download your playlist and put spotify in offline mode you can use the same account simultaneously

u/yabai90 Jul 05 '22

Wow that's a good tip i never thought about.

u/TheHighestHobo Jul 05 '22

we used spotify in the kitchen i worked at and one of the opening guys was signed in on his phone and would frequently put on tubthumping by chumawumba after he left for the day

u/LesserKnownHero Jul 05 '22 Wholesome

I was on a trip with my buddies in am old ghost town when one of ghem drunkenly signed up for the jukebox app of the hotel lobby. Put $200 on the account. We listened to the music for probably 4 hours while drinking and throwing cards around. Quarter a song. So about $3 an hour.

So he then set alarms so that after we left, twice a day the jukebox would trigger with Big Enough and Barbie Girl. That was 3 years ago...I think he still has credits.

62

u/SomniumOv Jul 05 '22

"oh you want a quiet wake up song, well let me introduce you to Last Days Of Humanity".

49

u/Abalamahalamatandra Jul 05 '22

My favorite is "You Won't Know" by Brand New. Starts out quiet for quite awhile, but do NOT turn it up!

19

u/Tetha Jul 05 '22

What about some nice chill violin and piano tunes in Endzeit by Heaven Shall Burn? It's always funny if people turn it up because the intro is so chill and smooth.

15

u/angierss Jul 05 '22

Oh. I forgot about Brand New. I loved that band in college.

9

u/mrbojanglz37 Jul 05 '22

Haha that song gets me, even though I KNOW WTF is about to happen. Lmao

One time I pulled up my Spotify and saw that my wife was already listening to a playlist for sleeping. I immediately turned on the most screaming metal song I knew and jacked up the volume. She was not very happy but I thought it was funny

15

u/dolladollaclinton Jul 05 '22

Well I think it’s funny too so that’s 2 against 1!

100%. The day my mix of my most played songs included Taylor swift and beyonce was the day I decided the family plan and separate accounts is the future. you listen to your shit music and I'll listen to my shit music and we never cross tastes again...deal?

10

u/dr_mannhatten Jul 05 '22

When my now ex did this I surprised her by just upgrading her account and paying for her Spotify premium account for the rest of our relationship

59

u/SnooOpinions2561 Jul 05 '22

I have completely messed up my husbands (metalhead) algorithm with everything from blues to folk to oldies like sam cook and Otis Redding. He used to hate it but now I catch him listening to my playlists on his own.

25

u/screamline82 Jul 05 '22

Same for me. My wife isn't a super music person but will listen to pop and loves musicals. Meanwhile I have a decently large selection music but don't do a ton of pop. As soon as she started a tswift binge on my account I set up a family account lol I don't want my algorithm being messed with

u/snakeskinsandles Jul 05 '22

Marriage versus dating

127

u/friendlyfireworks Jul 05 '22

Also a respect for each person's autonomy.

Media consumption can be a big part of personal time, can set a mood, assist in a work/flow state, can make a run, or a car ride enjoyable vrs drudgery... etc.

The sentiment of the post is sweet- but could also be a bit codependent, as well as a little loss of privacy.

Some people really like that kind of closeness, but to me I'd feel really weird if my partner was spending an hour every morning in silence just watching my Spotify.

I'd immediately change the account to duo, because yo, dude- you should be enjoying your own tunes, and starting your day ar work, not creepin' on me. Also- it's a little disingenuous to pretend to listen to the same music (unless you actually do) - I'd rather you ask me to share my music and let me make a Playlist for you... you know, so we can both be involved in the process- as partners.

9

u/GingerIsTheBestSpice Jul 05 '22

I have a family account & it lets you do a shared list!

u/Dreamlessmusic Jul 05 '22

If this is the biggest problem you have (easily solvable), it seems pretty petty. Solve it. Get pre marital counseling before you even think about marriage, cause much larger issues await you. Learn how to talk about these things before they fester.

17

u/thuggishruggishboner Jul 05 '22

So, a normal reaction.

37

u/Tangled2 Jul 05 '22

There's only so much Taylor Swift I can listen to, darling.

71

u/bh1106 Jul 05 '22

Mine is with my kids. I’ll be out on my run and my music keeps pausing because my kids keep asking Alexa to play godzilla soundtracks. I normally will switch to a podcast instead, but the one day I called my husband to tell the kids no music until mommy gets home. I refuse to pay for a family plan (I still have my very cheap student acct)

6

u/Shes_so_Ratchet Jul 05 '22

If one of you goes offline you can still access your downloads while the other person is using the same account.

I couldn't think of anything else reading this post. Literally just move that little slider over and both people can have music.

4

u/Agreeable_Situation4 Jul 05 '22

I laughed too hard at that 🤣

5

u/aFacelessBlankName Jul 05 '22

It's going to be 3PM and suddenly WAP comes on and she's talking about how she has to "work late"

4

u/PiperMorgan Jul 05 '22

i would want none of this. op is basically spying on his partner.

i need no spying. i need to own my music and hardware and i don't need any sharing. and i don't need the associated monthly service fees.

Damn it made me both, cry and smile since my fiance broke up with me for another dude couple of months ago. I had almost the same thing going with her. I live in Germany and work at the Deutsche Post (German Post Office) as a letter and package delivery dude. And I always have one earbud in when I'm driving and walking out the letters, so she occasionally kicked me out and immediately texted me "I'm sorry I paused your podcast, can I listen to some music now?" I always smiled and said "take as much time as you want"

It was the best time of my life... Now I'm really bad Depressed and unhappy with my current Life..

Really cute story. Op

If functional relationship stories are your thing, me and my SO are almost two sox years! He's still my favorite human and I really like who I'm becoming walking by his side.

Just take responsibility for your life and learn how to enjoy being in your body.... And learn how to set boundaries. If you do those things with love for yourself, the right girl will find you.

98

u/AxisLeopard Jul 05 '22

Sorry about that man, truly. There's no point in saying that there will be so many others for you later, so I'm going to ask you to focus on yourself right now.

Do things that make you happy, but most importantly, do things your fiance would never have let you done in front of them.

Find another person when you are content with your life, man, not to fill the void created.

38

u/weaslewig Jul 05 '22

For real. Once the depression passes enjoy the liberation of being single.

Solo travel is a great one, no compromises on the itinerary. Just do what you like!

23

u/puf_puf_paarthurnax Jul 05 '22

Man, I'm 2 years post divorce and still struggling with solo travel. I know I can do whatever I want, and I really would love to explore a bit, I just have trouble getting excited about it without someone to share and plan with.

16

u/wambam17 Jul 05 '22

The trick is to make sure you start off with something fun and end with something fun.

I always give myself a goal to try a good restaurant for breakfast and dinner, regardless of the cost. Meal for one person, even if slightly expensive, is never going to beat a meal for 2 lol. And this way I’m sure I’m going to have a great start and end to the day.

The middle portion can be as exciting or laid back as you want. I really enjoy hanging out at the park for plays and stuff, and that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, so going alone is nice cause nobody is bothering you to leave for whatever reason.

Hope you get a chance to try something new you’ve been wanting to do!

5

u/_BigChallenges Jul 05 '22

You know, that itinerary business is always what made me hate traveling.

I’ve been single for some years now and you just made travel seem extremely desirable. Thanks, maybe I’ll finally go see Japan like I’ve always wanted.

u/Somewhere-Practical Jul 05 '22

so my husband and I did a (short) period of separation before our wedding day. from dinner friday night until the wedding sunday afternoon (about 42 hours), we didn’t see each other, text, or anything. during this time, i kept thinking of things that i realized we hadn’t discussed much or at all. it particular, our procession. we didn’t have a rehearsal dinner (not in our culture) and hadn’t even listened to our procession song together, which we’d only decided on about an hour before our separation began. the morning of the wedding I was looking over our spotify playlists on our (shared) ipad, and i noticed it was playing something already. at first i didn’t want to look because it felt intrusive and like i was breaking our separation period—but then i noticed it was our procession song. my husband was making his brother and sister practice walking down the aisle that morning, which was my exact wedding anxiety at that particular time. (then it switched to something different and i closed the ipad) i’ll never forget that moment! not to gush but it was such an encapsulation of my husband. he always seems like he can read my mind and even my subconscious. he knows what i want before i do!

My girlfriend and I also share a Spotify account. It can be annoying at times when I'm at the gym in the middle of a song and she takes control all of a sudden, or she might be hosting friends and playing music and I just take over not realising it. However it's all worthwhile on those rare occasions where I'm home and she runs herself a bath, lights and incense stick, and plays relaxing music - and then from downstairs I turn the volume up and change the song to 'over 1000 farts' on Spotify. Bliss.

12

u/Yep_That_Happened Jul 05 '22

Took my parents months to finally figure out why Enya’s greatest hits would randomly play for 15-30 seconds on their Echo Dot then stop. My mom thought it was broke. She figured it out when my brother was over for dinner and I randomly turned it on. I live across the country. She started telling him about it. He caught on real fast and started laughing because I pay for our family Spotify plan and can select any device connected. Now I just turn on ZZ Top randomly for my dad.

2

u/rothrolan Jul 05 '22

But this is a screenshot of an actual post, not a comment. The only thing OP could've done differently is use the cross-post function.

However, in this uncommon instance where the OOP wants to limit the chances that his GF finds out about his wholesome secret ("I have no intentions of telling her"), hiding his username in the captured screenshot would be the next logical thing before sharing the post, to help scatter the paper trail.

28

u/Powerztroke Jul 05 '22

As a stalker myself, this is also somewhat voyeuristic… he’s watching… always watching. Knows when she gets up, when she leaves, what she listens to… there’s more.

16

u/WellConcealedMonkey Jul 05 '22

Yea different strokes for different folks but I'm of the opinion that spying on people is not ok in any circumstance. I'd be extremely bothered if this was done to me. Massive violation of privacy to know when I'm getting up and leaving the house every day.

5

u/Great_Justice Jul 05 '22

Yeah my wife would NOT be amused. She’d find it cute if I made fun of what she was listening to the first time right then and there; as in when I’m discovering what’s going on, and then we’d address it so she has some privacy.

8

u/hollygirl4111 Jul 05 '22

I immediately got creepy vibes from this.

4

u/rothrolan Jul 05 '22

I mean, the truly logical thing would be for them to have gotten a family account for Spotify instead of using the same login, so neither person has to be interrupted in their listening in the first place. Since they haven't, I would assume they are comfortable knowing what each other are listening to regardless, and it's only a rough guess of the routine based on the music being changed, not like he's watching her showering or something. They live togethor already, the BF would already know her morning routine from that. Crossing a line would be if he kept tabs on her GPS location.

Just my opinion though. Everyone's got their own safety bubble. Let this be a reminder to those that may not know this happens when sharing a single Spotify account. And that Discord also shares what you're currently listening to on Spotify to your other online friends (another feature that can be turned off/on).

2

u/rugology Jul 05 '22

Massive violation of privacy to know when I'm getting up and leaving the house every day.

It's implied that they live together seeing as they share a Google Home device. You'd kinda have to go out of your way to avoid this information in that situation.

1

u/musicmonk1 Jul 05 '22

It's not a massive violation of privacy when the wife logs into a shared account. Still kinda weird tho..

If she knew, she’d probably feel like you are sort of spying on her, and wouldn’t like it I bet.

Meanwhile I dated a woman once who said it was creepy that I brought her flowers. We had been dating for a couple of months, seeing each other a few times a week. I had taken her out multiple times, stayed the night a few times, normal relationship progress. I came by one afternoon with flowers to drop off. She knew I was going to swing by and say hi, but didn’t know about the flowers. I knocked on the door. No answer. Knock on the back door (she has a back staircase in her building that goes up to her rear entrance, and uses it frequently), no answer. She texts me about 30 seconds later that she saw me out the window with the flowers and it creeped her out so she didn’t answer. I literally never saw her again. So weird. In hindsight she likely had someone else over. She called me a couple nights before to pick her up at a bar so she didn’t drive. When I got there she was sitting on the ground outside the bar with a homeless man, having a very drunk conversation which I could not understand. Turns out that homeless guy was her ex. I’m married to a much better woman now.

Let me tell you something: this is how you love somebody. You're going to make a great husband and I wish you all the happiness you can get your hands on.

By surveillance from a distance? Seems a bit controlling to me.

I do that with my mom accidentally sometimes and she screams at me and calls me fat

u/chris415 Jul 05 '22

I'm happy that you are happy. Now, fast forward 30 years, you're going to want her and your kids to get their own damn account!

I do this exact same thing! When my 2.5 y/o eats breakfast he likes to listen to music. Always puts a smile on my face when I see my SO's phone playing his favorite songs.

2

u/Zeaus03 Jul 05 '22

This will be buried but my wife and I have had small Spotify war thats been going on for years.

She's a figure skating coach and she'll use her account to play music for the kids at the rink.

Occasionally I'll hop on and change the song to something like Barbie Girl and the kids will go nuts laughing.

On the other hand if I'm driving somewhere with the kid, she knows I won't mess around with my phone while driving and put Baby Shark or something like that on repeat.

We don't do it all the time but we'll have a good laugh when it happens.

He's doing it right. I'll be married for 15 years as of July 26th. The small stuff means way more than people realize. Every little thing you do is one tiny way of showing your partner that you're thinking about them and you love them.

God that subreddit is a total joke. Does any sub actually have content it's supposed to anymore?

3

4

3

u/actuarial_venus Jul 05 '22

Thats so sweet!

2

u/EvulRabbit Jul 05 '22

There is a Google home app that you can broadcast to the Google from your phone to say good morning. Was a life saver when I was at work and kids wouldn't get up for school.

2

u/helpmeimbrokenn Jul 05 '22

This is so adorable, guess I'm just a twerp. My husband would go to the gym and take over my account while I was at work with my headphones in, but I can still control the music no matter what device it is playing on, so he got an ear full of Spice Girls and Whitney Houston, took him a while to figure out what was going on.

2

u/myutnybrtve Jul 05 '22

Tell her, but wait a few years. It'll be sweet and fun/funny.

2

u/HotBodyToddy Jul 05 '22

I dont get what's charming about surveillance. Dude knows about his gf because he spies on her activity online without her knowledge. That's just creepy.

He's the type of guy who reads other people's emails because, "they were open."

Just recently ran into this same thing except it was my ex playing Spotify from the Google speaker I gave her. So it just made me sad.
